Bottom of the league Crostyx travelled to Witham and put up a resistant display; however Witham’s class shone through to claim a 4-0 victory and keep the pressure on the two teams above them.Paul Bellehewe continued his fine form in front of goal with two goals, whilst midfield duo Richard Marshall and man of the match Tom Wilsher contributed with a goal each.

The game took a while to settle as both teams were unable to get a foothold into the game. It wasn't until midway through the first half that Witham got the breakthrough. Decent work from Dan Newland fed the ball to Bellehewe who coolly slotted past the goalkeeper into the far corner. There were few other chances in the first half and Witham went into the break deserving the one goal lead.

Crostyx came out in the second half with a fighting spirit and were forcing Witham into uncharacteristic mistakes. It soon became clear that the second goal would be crucial in deciding the winner. It wasn't until 20 minutes into the half that Witham won a short corner and had the chance to get their second goal. A well worked routine saw Marshall deflect the ball into the back of the net. Witham could sense the relief and started to display some good hockey.

The second goal was enough to make Crostyx capitulate. They quickly become visibly tired and allowed Witham’s midfield to find the space necessary to dominate the game and punish the opposition.

The third goal came following some fantastic work from Andy Holms. His superb play found an unmarked Wilsher in the area, who smash home a reserve stick effort.

With minutes to go, Witham wrapped up the scoring when Karl Khan burst into the area and was taken out by the goalkeeper. The loose ball fell to Bellehewe who swept home into an empty net and a deserved four goal victory.

Witham’s next fixture sees them travel to Wapping for another vital game. Both teams will be pushing for a victory as only two points separate them and the opportunity for promotion is still very much on the agenda.
