Witham continued their fine start to the season with a 4-0 away victory. In a game that they were expecting to win convincingly, the scoreline didn't reflect the first half of the game. Witham found the conditions tough and they were unable to get a grip on the game and play their normal free flowing hockey; they did however manage to grab a goal when Crostyx gave away a reckless penalty. James Belsham sent the keeper the wrong way to put the visitors 1-0 up. The next 30 minutes were very frustrating as Witham couldn't hold on to possession, giving away easy balls on too many occasions, and if it wasn't for some poor finishing from Crosytx the scoreline could have been very different going into the break.
At half-time skipper Richard Marshall decided to change personnel to try and gain a foothold in the game, as it was evident a second goal for Witham would all but seal the game.
It wasn't until midway through the second half that Witham finally got their reward for some patient play. Tom Wilsher broke down the right, playing a one two with Simon Pidgeon, and set up Paul Bellehewe who swept home from close range. This goal was the killer blow for Crostyx, their heads dropped and Witham then dominated up until the end of the game. Witham played some attractive hockey that led to Paul Bellehewe beating the keeper one-on-one. The game was completely over when Richard Marshall stole the ball from the Crostyx midfield and set up Jack Tyson, who slipped the ball to Ian Bellehewe for the easy job of slotting the ball home.
Man of the match Tom Wisher said after the game: "On reflection it is a satisfying win but we will need to up our game if we are to continue our unbeaten run."
Next up for Witham is a home game against Wapping 2, 12.30PM start at Bramston Sports Centre. Witham will be keen to continue their dominance at home and bag another 3 points.
