Chelmsford Chieftains continued their good run of form with a comfortable 8-2 rout of the Slough ENL Jets last night in Berkshire. After an early scare and dropping 2-1 down at the midway point of the game, a late surge saw the Essex side run in 7 unanswered goals. Jakub Klima netted in the first period to put the visitors 1-0 up, but then 2 goals from the Jets had the Chieftains rocked slightly, but player-coach Gary Clarke rallied his troops and in the end it was a relatively easy second half of the game. The goals flew in thick and fast from James Ayling followed up by Danny Hammond and a second from Klima before the end of the second session. Into the third and it was all Chelmsford as Clarke score a brace either side of Tom Long netting the 7th while the Chieftains were on the powerplay. Clarke's second was the pick of the goals on the night with a fine solo effort that saw him take it through the Slough defensive zone and slot past the Slough netminder with relative ease.
Danny Hammond took the man of the match award, although Gary Clarke and Alex Staples both had good cases to be awarded it too.
This result leaves the Chieftains still on top of the English National League South 1 by just a point from fierce rivals Romford Raiders, but the Raiders do have a game in hand, but the goal difference is massively in the Chieftains favour.
Next weekend sees the Chieftains come up against title rivals the Wightlink Raiders on the Isle of Wight on Saturday evening, followed up 24hours later with a trickey away trip to Oxford to face the City Stars, who are currently the only team this season to take league points off the Chieftains at the Riverside.
